This fabulous  FREE  program provides reading records, prizes, activities, and an end of summer party to encourage children to read and maintain their literacy skills over the summer. All students received an information sheet to take home that explains more about the program. The Richmond Free Library is located at 201 Bridge Street in downtown Richmond. Summer Library Book checkouts began today in the RES library. These kindergartners were trying it for the  first time...wow, 10 books! And we get to keep them until school starts in the fall! All ready to read this summer! Summer reading helps every scholar succeed! Each summer, scholars in kindergarten and grades one, two, and three are able to check out up to 10 books from the school library and take them home for the summer. Starting on Wednesday, June 12, scholars will be bringing home “Carry Out a Good Book” bags with their summer library books. Each scholar will also get a note explaining the program and a list of books he or she has checked out for the summer. The books will be due back when school starts in the fall. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school librarian, Mrs. Redford, at 434-2461 or  beth.redford@cesuvt.org

Traditional stories in Third Grade Library Classes #resvt #cesuvt

Image
Third graders have been sharing traditional stories from different cultures in their library classes. This week they enjoyed the story of Monkey King, who is a character based in Chinese folklore and featured in the 16th century Chinese epic Journey to the West.  As with the other traditional stories they have shared in library classes this spring, the scholars were able to make many connections between the martial-arts expert Monkey King and today's American culture. They found connections between the story of Monkey King and video games, Star Wars, The Karate Kid, Avatar , and more. We asked the question: Why do these stories stay popular over so many hundreds of years? cover image from www.amazon.com
