New Picture Book Section!

Image
The NEW picture book section is complete!!  I'm very excited to present our new organization system for picture books.  I hope that it will make picture books more accessible to students and helpful for teachers and community members.  Picture books are already circulating more than before!! The picture books are now organized based on topic rather than author's last name.   The topics have been grouped together based on similar topics with a color code.  So a book's call number will include the color bin it will be found in to help narrow your search in the stacks.  An example is P Purple Funny.   The P stands for Picture Book.  The Purple stands for the color label/bin.  Funny is the specific bin to look in. There are colorful labels on the shelves to help direct you to the right spot!  The reason behind this new organization is mainly to help young learners.  Kids don't care who wrote their favorite books, they care...

Navigating the new library space

The library has gone through a transformation.  And as there are quite a few new folx in the building, I wanted to give a little tour of the library and share what the library has to offer to support you in your work.  Space Catalog Use our library catalog to look for the books you need.  Check to see if the book is available and then use its call number to locate it in the library.  The first part of a call number tells you what section in the library to look.  The second part tells you what shelf.  The map can help with finding what section is which.  If you would like more guidance on how to use the catalog, please let me know and I will happily teach you.  You can also reserve library books from the catalog.  Watch this video to find out how.   Resources The library offers lots of resources beyond books.  From the library website, you can access a variety of digital research tools, eBooks, and audiobooks.  Look at the...

Exciting new PebbleGo news! #resvt

PebbleGo has been a favorite of both students and teachers for a while.  But now it's even better!  PebbleGo has enhanced their Animals & Science databases by adding two eBooks about each topic to the "Read More" tab.  These are capstone publisher's non-fiction books that are often well written and engaging for young learners. And since they are eBooks, they have text to speech capabilities to help all learners extend their learning.   This is going to be great when students are doing their non-fiction writing units or just want to learn more about a curiosity.   The library now subscribes to all of the databases:  Animals, Science, Biography, Social Studies, & Dinosaurs.  But wait, there's more!  The library also now subscribes to PebbleGO Next!  This is a database geared towards 3rd-5th graders on topics American Indians, States, Science, Social Studies, and Biographies!  If using these resources from schoo...

The library is a great space to come find a good book to read or to help answer some of your burning questions.  But the library also extends beyond the border of its walls to help with these quests by offering a variety of digital resources.  I'm excited to tell you about two new ones and to give a shout out to the ones we already know and love. New to our school: JLG Digital  is a book streaming service provided by Junior Library Guild.  Each month a new set of books expertly selected for elementary students will arrive on our platform.  The collection fits a diverse range of needs and interests.   It's like Netflix, but for books!   Students and teachers can click on the link from our  library website  to start reading.  If students want to continue reading a book at another time, they just need to login with their username and password (firstname.lastname, books123).  But other than that, no password is required...
