 RES students have voted for their favorite Red Clover and Golden Dome books.  Although the state winner has yet to be announced, I can tell you which books won in our school.  I've also broken the votes down by grade level.  I always find it interesting to see what book each grade gravitates towards.  

The RES Red Clover winner is Bobcat Prowling!

RES fourth graders were featured on Vermont Public Radio on February 8, during Vermont Edition at noon and 7 p.m.! They were interviewed in January for the VPR radio program Dorothy’s List , about the children’s books nominated for the Dorothy Canfield Fisher award. Every month Dorothy’s List features a different title, and RES scholars were interviewed about El Deafo , an award-winning book written and illustrated by Cece Bell. VPR reporter Amy Noyes interviewed our scholars as they discussed El Deafo, and she also recorded the fourth graders’ questions for the author. 4th Grade Graduation Speech #resvt #mmuusdvt

  Good afternoon almost 5th graders!  Good afternoon family, friends, teachers, and well wishers.   We are here today to celebrate the growth and accomplishments of these fine students.  And it has been an honor to teach them for the past couple of years.  This group of kids will always be near and dear to my heart because we went through two and half years of covid together.  And they have shown such resilience, empathy, and grace, far more than most adults that I know. I appreciate my time with them and look forward to what they will do in the future.   Well, my darlings, you are about to head into middle school.  And with any change, it comes with excitement and anxiety.  This change might be wonderful or it might be a challenge, or most likely a little bit of both.  But I assure you that you have the tools to navigate this change with the same resilience, empathy, and grace you have shown during our covid years.   The proof is right here.  This is our speaking stone.  It was first

Fourth Grade Enrichment Library Classes: Research and Citations

Finding information and using it ethically (by citing sources) are two important skills for our 21st century students, and RES fourth graders have been practicing these skills in their Enrichment Library classes. The students are completing short research projects on topics of their own choosing. First they located books in the RES library, took three notes on their topics, and wrote citations for their books: Author, title, date of publication. Then they found photos online to illustrate their topics and practiced using the photos with citation information in the form of a link to the original photo. Once they had found and cited useful photos, they printed them out. Finally the students made posters with their notes, citations, and photos. At the end of the project they wrote down two reasons to use citations.
