Mythology in Third Grade Library Classes #resvt #cesuvt

What do we already know about mythology?

RES third graders have begun a unit on mythology in their library classes. They started this week by brainstorming what they already knew about myths and mythology. Many of the scholars were already familiar with Greek mythology from their classrooms, the Percy Jackson movie and books, and their own reading. Then they compared a myth about Thor, the Norse god of thunder to a myth about Zeus, the Greek god of lightning. We asked the question: why do different cultures explain the same things differently?

For the next few weeks we will continue to share more myths about Thor, Odin, Loki and the other gods and goddesses of the Vikings from the book Thor: The Thunder God by Lise Lunge-Larsen. Ask your third grader which days of the week are named after Norse gods! The scholars also had a chance to explore the mythology section of the library.
