Traditional stories in Third Grade Library Classes #resvt #cesuvt

Third graders have been sharing traditional stories from different cultures in their library classes. This week they enjoyed the story of Monkey King, who is a character based in Chinese folklore and featured in the 16th century Chinese epic Journey to the West. As with the other traditional stories they have shared in library classes this spring, the scholars were able to make many connections between the martial-arts expert Monkey King and today's American culture. They found connections between the story of Monkey King and video games, Star Wars, The Karate Kid, Avatar, and more. We asked the question: Why do these stories stay popular over so many hundreds of years?
