January 2016 at the RES library, by the numbers
  • Number of library books and other materials checked out by RES scholars, families, and staff: 1548 -- that's 81 per day in our four weeks of school this month
  • Number of times scholars used the PebbleGo nonfiction databases about animals, biographies,and more: 641
  • Number of TumbleBooks electronic books read and listened to: 462
  • Number of scholar visits to the library: over 1,000 (13 classes per week plus additional class visits plus individual visits)
  • Number of scholars served by the librarian during lessons and visits in classrooms: over 200

3rd Grade Book Selection Project

 Third graders in Ms Girouard & Ms Ayer's classes took on a leadership role in the library this fall.  After looking at data about reading habits, students met with Mr. Winner from Gumdrop books to see what books the library might be able to buy for our library.   Students looked at survey results on what RES kids like to read, circulation data of the most popular check outs from the library, and Ms Wood's designated "holes" in the library collection.  Students identified the books that would fit the criteria they created for this selection project.  As a class, they worked together to create an order list that fit their budget.   It took some thought and negotiating, but between both classes, students ordered 94 new books for the library.  They are getting processed right now and will arrive in January for all RES kids to enjoy!  We can't wait to share these great books with our reading community!! Spotlight on: Grade 4 Enrichment Library #HourOfCode #resvt #cesuvt #vted

RES fourth graders writing computer code with  Scratch programming language Fourth graders at RES are learning to write short computer programs in their Enrichment Library classes. They are using the Scratch programming language, which was developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as an engaging introduction to programming for students and other beginners. These activities are part of the nationwide Hour Of Code initiative to encourage young people to try writing or "coding" computer programs. VT Book Awards by our numbers #redclover #goldendome #gdba #read #mmuusdvt

 RES students have voted for their favorite Red Clover and Golden Dome books.  Although the state winner has yet to be announced, I can tell you which books won in our school.  I've also broken the votes down by grade level.  I always find it interesting to see what book each grade gravitates towards.   The RES Red Clover winner is Bobcat Prowling! Here are the vote totals for the whole school: Kindergarten totals: 1st grade totals: 2nd grade totals: and 3rd grade totals: For the Golden Dome Award, students chose a wide variety of books as their favorite.  Here are the favorites of this year's 4th graders: I'll announce the state winners when I get that information!
