Red Clover Books in the RES Library
First through fourth grade students have been enjoying this year's Red Clover books in the RES library. Named after Vermont's state flower, the Red Clover Award is Vermont's children's choice award for picture books. Every year, a group of teachers and librarians puts together a list of 10 Red Clover books. Students who read or listen to at least five titles from the list get to vote on their favorite book. Their votes, along with votes from students all over the state, help choose the Red Clover Award winner.
This year's Red Clover list includes a variety of well written, carefully illustrated fiction, nonfiction, and poetry titles. RES favorites so far have included Stand Straight, Ella Kate: The True Story of a Real Giant and Born Yesterday: The Diary of a Young Journalist. Students who participate in the Red Clover program are working toward the Vermont Education Standard that "students read at least 25 books in a year, choosing high-quality materials from classic and modern literature." Ask your children about their favorites!
