Welcome to the RES Library

Reading_at_library_table

We're looking forward to another great year at the Richmond Elementary School Library! Students visit the library for literature and research skills lessons, and also to check out books and other materials ("book shopping").

Parents and family members are always welcome at the library, and I’m always looking for volunteers to help out. Please stop by the library, call me at 434-2461, or email me at beth.redford@cesuvt.org if you ever have any questions or comments. I look forward to meeting you! – Beth Redford, RES Teacher Librarian

Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions about the RES library.

When is the library open?

7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed for lunch, bus duty, and occasional meetings)

When does my child visit the library?

Kindergarten though third grade students visit the library once a week with their classes for "book shopping" plus a literature or research skills lesson.

Fourth grade students visit the library as needed for book shopping, plus they have a combined enrichment/library class once a week. Please see the Library Schedule for the date and time of your child's class visit.

How many books or other library items can my child check out?

First through fourth graders may check out two items at a time, or more if they are working on a class project. Kindergartners check out one book at the beginning of the school year, then start checking out two items later in the fall.

When are my child's library items due back?

If your child is in kindergarten through third grade, library items are due back on your child's class library day each week. Please see the Library Schedule to find out your child's class library day. Your child may borrow any items for another week (or "renew" them) as long as no one else is waiting for them. Please send them in on library day even if your child wants to renew them.

If your child is in fourth grade, library items are due back one week after they are checked out.

Can I check out items from the RES library?

Yes! Parents and guardians can get accounts at the RES library. This is a great thing to do if your child goes through a lot of books, especially new readers who may read several “skinny books” in one week.

What else does the RES library check out besides books?

The RES library also checks out magazines and audiobooks on tape, CD, and Playaway pre-loaded MP3 players.

What other services does the library provide?

The library offers free online books that children can read and listen to at home. Please visit the RES Library web page (“Library” tab on the left side of the RES web site at www.richmond.k12.vt.us), and scroll down to PebbleGo or TumbleBooks for more information. Please contact the library if you need the login and password for PebbleGo. There is no login or password for TumbleBooks if you go through the link on the library web page

How can I get more information about the RES library?

Please visit the library web page (address is above) and the RES Library News Blog at reslibrary.posterous.com for more information and updates from the library. Thank you for your interest!
