Skype Author Visit from Origami Yoda author Tom Angleberger

Virginia children's author Tom Angleberger visited with RES fourth graders this morning in the library via Skype video chat. Mr. Angleberger wrote The Strange Case of Origami Yoda, a funny, illustrated novel that is one of this year's nominees for Vermont's Dorothy Canfield Fisher (DCF) book award. He talked with students about their favorite books, shared a few of his own favorites (Lloyd Alexander's The Book of Three, Ellen Raskin's The Westing Game), answered their questions, and taught them all to fold their own versions of Origami Yoda. The students were particularly thrilled when he took his web camera outside to his porch so they could actually see where he writes. They left the library laughing and fired up to read and write. Many thanks to Mr. Angleberger for sharing his morning with us!
